Most young adults do not come to recovery looking for a new way of life. Most are just tired of the lives they are living. This is why SDG has started the YARN – The Young Adult Recovery Network.
Living a life feeling angry, lonely, hurt, or scared is exhausting. For many young adults, getting high and/or drunk to escape those feelings seemed to be their only help. Unfortunately, realizing the fact that getting high and/or drunk makes life even harder creeps into reality. Whether or not you identify as an addict or not, the idea of giving up drugs and alcohol is hard to imagine.
If this sounds familiar, you might be interested in the YARN. The YARN gives young adults, ages 18 to 40, the chance to connect and share what they have learned about life in recovery. You are never too young to be an addict, and you are certainly not too young to get clean.
Through surrender, you will learn not only respect for self, but also, respect for others. The expectation in the YARN is for those involved to be respectful of each other while remaining honest and real. Through networking with those in recovery and hearing others experiences about not having to use drugs or alcohol anymore, members can learn how to live free from the bonds of addiction and to have a different kind of life. The YARN is not about controlling each other, but about controlling yourself through the will of a higher power; God. Members of the YARN are encouraged to share their experience, strength and hope; to show each other that regardless of desire, we never have to use or drink again. The YARN is about community and a feeling of belonging. The YARN is hope!
